Francesco Lojacono was very active in the genre of “marines”, to which his commercial success is mostly linked, given that it was a genre much loved by collectors. In his production dedicated to the sea, the transition from wide panoramic views to closer and more intimate visions is evident precisely in the “marine” series.

Francesco Lojacono, Marina con barca, 1880 – 1980 ca., oil on canvas
In Marina con barca there is still a panoramic cut in which the eye ranges with the view of the Gulf of Palermo, in which the silhouette of Capo Zafferano can be recognized in the background, immersed in the light of the sunset in a suspended atmosphere. The light is reflected on the sea while the human figures animate the scene, especially the one in the foreground of the little fisherman.

Francesco Lojacono, Piccolo Scoglio, 1900 – 1914 ca., oil on canvas
In Piccolo scoglio, on the other hand, there is a solitary meditation on a landscape now devoid of human presence and the artist reproduces the exact optical effect of the landscape.

Francesco Lojacono, Mare in risacca, 1909 ca., oil on canvas
Works such as Mareggiata (1900-1914 ca.) and in Mare in riacca (1909ca.) the sea is now the solitary protagonist of a meditation on nature that the painter makes in his old age and who conceives landscape painting as a reflection of one ” mood”.
