SCULPTURE IN THE GAM COLLECTIONS

A GREAT SEASON FOR PUBLIC ART

The sculpture collection of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna is above all a historical collection. The works, the result of purchases, donations or deposits, bear witness to the very history of the Museum and of art in Sicily in a moment of great splendor of Palermo sculpture between the mid-nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries. The greater ease of contacts between the regions thanks to the Unification, and the great economic development that the city was experiencing, determined a happy season for Palermo sculpture, in line with the events of Italian national art.
